The Halloween Tag 2018

It's spooky season my darlings! Whilst I knew I was too busy to complete a full Blogtober, I thought it would be fun to do a '10 post countdown' to Halloween instead! What better way to start than with the Halloween Tag? I spotted this on Amy's blog and just had to do it. As a self-confessed Halloween Queen, I truly enjoyed answering these questions and really look forward to seeing other peoples' answers!

1. Favourite horror or Halloween-themed song?
I love Figure's Mad Decent Monster Mix, but I can't really claim that as one song, so I suppose I'll have to choose KoRn's Kidnap the Sandy Claws cover! It's the first song I heard from Nightmare Revisited and I fell in love.

2. Name something you wouldn't want to run into in a dark forest or abandoned building.
In a dark forest, I'd loathe to run into a banshee. They terrify me like no other horror folklore can. If I was in an abandoned building, however, I'd be terrified to run into a cult and see or hear something I shouldn't. That seems like the kind of trouble you don't get out of.

3. Have you ever played with a Ouija Board?
Yes. I own one (however it's currently in storage!), and have used it on several occasions. I believe using it respectfully and correctly, and ending the session properly makes it less risky, and have never used it in my own home. I've had a few bizarre experiences but nothing spine-tingling.

4. Favourite horror monster or villain.
The Babadook. First of all, I love paranormal horror the most. Secondly, The Babadook became an LGBT icon out of nowhere, causing the creation of one of my favourite videos on the internet. Plus, he's kinda cute.

5. The creepiest thing that has ever happened when you were alone?
I'm saving this tale for a later post about my paranormal experiences, however, I'll let you know that I once found myself alone in the basement of a haunted building, and saw things I haven't forgotten.

6. If you were dared to spend the night in a haunted house, would you?
I wouldn't need daring! Someone take me! I'd love to do a proper paranormal investigation, or spend more time in a haunted location. I've both lived and worked in haunted places and don't believe there's much to fear in spirits.

7. Are you superstitious?
I've been raised superstitious, so have many habits which feel wrong to break. I'd say I am superstitious, but also do feel like some superstitions are just common sense, like not walking under ladders. I feel very lucky to have once read that my horoscope means 13 is a lucky number for me, and Friday is a lucky day, so I welcome Friday 13th instead of fearing it now!

8. Do you ever see figures in your peripheral vision?
Only when in haunted places.

9. Do you prefer gore or thrillers?
I much prefer paranormal horror with a plot to bite into. Gore can sometimes feel a bit gratuitous and excessive to me.

11. Do you believe in multiple dimensions or worlds?
I do. I think it would be unwise not to.

12. Ever made a potion of any sort?
Absolutely. Most of my supplies are in storage, and I rarely have the time these days, but I have been fascinated with and practised witchcraft since my pre-teen years. I was given a child-friendly beginner's witchcraft kit I'd been enchanted by in a magic shop (in Llandudno, I believe), and that was the beginning of my belief.

13. Do you scare easily?
In terms of anxiety, yes. When it comes to ghosts, horror, and the like, not at all.

14. Have you ever played Bloody Mary?
Yes and it was both hilarious and horrible. In primary school, some friends and I turned the bathroom lights off and played. A cubicle door swung shut and the toilet flushed itself. I don't think you'd ever have seen a trio of 7 years olds screaming their way out of a bathroom quicker.

15. Do you believe in demons/the devil?
This is a difficult question. Potentially. I don't necessarily believe in the devil as a 'fallen angel' or 'king of the underworld' figure, but more a force that may persuade people into darker paths. I think there are energies in this world and not all of them are good. Demons, again, I see more as forces of energy that can potentially possess a person and hold power within someone. It's a scary thought.

16. You're home alone but you hear footsteps in your house, what do you do?
I'd listen for more and try to work out if there's an intruder. If so, I'd quietly call the police and exit the house via the nearest exit but stay close by.

17. If you got trapped in one scary movie, which would you choose?
The Exorcist. I'd be fascinated to be a fly on the wall in that situation. Plus, there's only one victim. Sorry Regan!

18. If you could only wear one Halloween costume for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Probably a witch. I dig those clothes anyway.

19. Would you ever go to a graveyard at night?
Absolutely. One of my favourite places is a graveyard. I'm a walking goth cliché, I know.

20. In a zombie apocalypse, what is your weapon of choice?
My dad. He's pretty much seen every zombie film ever made, so he'd know exactly what to do.

21. Would you rather go to a Halloween party or go trick or treating?
Halloween Party! Dancing, music, and good friends is more my bag of blood than trick or treating at my age, but I do have fond memories!

22. You're in a horror movie, are you the final girl, the first to die, the comic relief, the skeptic, the smart one or the killer?
I'd like to think I'd be the smart one as I have quite a level head about these situations, but realistically I'd be dead before I could impart any knowledge. I'm unfit, too nice, and frankly too much of a princess to get all grimy and bloody and whatnot. Ew. RIP me.

23. Do you have to watch something happy after watching a horror movie so you can go to sleep?
Nope, I'm pretty groovy with watching horror at any time of night!

24. Whilst watching scary movies, are you the person who yells at the characters, the person with their eyes covered the whole time or the person who falls asleep?
I'm usually the one who falls asleep. I don't recommend it though. I was drifting in and out of sleep whilst my friends were watching Seven once and that was a hideous experience in my dreamy, disoriented state.

25. Are you the one who gets scared or the one who does the scaring?
I do the scaring. I used to tell my friends scary stories even when I was small.

26. Favourite scary book?
I don't really do a whole lot of horror reading, but I absolutely want to do more. I just haven't found something that's gripped me yet, as my own imagination doesn't frighten me.

27. How old were you when you saw your first horror movie?
I don't have an exact answer but I can indeed tell you that it was probably a tiny bit too young!

28. What was your first Halloween costume?
A witch, I think! My mum has always got on board with my adoration of Halloween and has kindly humoured and financed an array of costumes over the years.

29. What are you going to be for Halloween this year?
A skeleton for the trick or treaters as I'm home on Halloween night, and a witch for the party I'm going to the weekend after!

30. If you could have a spooky Halloween pet, what would you pick?
I've already had the pleasure of being a rat momma, so I'd likely go for a snake. I'd love to open my heart and home to a reptilian friend.

I tag anyone who wants to join in and partake in the spooky spirit and look forward to hearing your answers!
